Final verdict
Worth it? Not at full price
The Dyson Airwrap i.d. isn’t a bad product. It’s a good product with a price tag that makes its shortcomings much harder to forgive. I love how my hair looks right after styling, but my curls often fade within a few hours, a polished look still takes 20–25 minutes, and there’s a real learning curve. I like using it, but I wouldn’t pay full price again.
- Best for: people with money to spare who love experimenting with hairstyles.
- Skip it if: you need curls that last all day, you live somewhere humid, or you’re saving up for months expecting it to transform your routine.
What I disliked about the Dyson Airwrap i.d.
- Curls don’t last. My hair looks amazing right after styling, but curls can start dropping within two or three hours, and by evening they’re often loose waves. Smaller sections, mousse, different dampness levels and longer cool shots helped a little, but my regular curling iron still holds better.
- It doesn’t save much time. A polished result still takes me 20–25 minutes, between sectioning, switching attachments and redoing curls.
- The learning curve is real. For the first two weeks I wondered if I’d wasted my money. My hair didn’t always wrap, and one side often looked different from the other. It got easier with practice.
- Humidity still wins. It smooths my hair at first, but on humid days the frizz comes back within a few hours.
- The attachments and case are a hassle. Switching attachments interrupts styling, and the storage case is bulky. I wouldn’t pack it for a short trip.
- The app adds less than I expected. The personalised curling sequence helps, but after setup I rarely open the app.
- The price is hard to justify. My older tools cost a fraction of this. The Airwrap is more versatile and nicer to use, but the improvement isn’t proportional to what I spent.
What I still like
- The blowout finish: when everything goes right, my hair looks soft, bouncy and professionally styled.
- The versatility: I can dry, smooth and curl my hair with one main device.
- The temperature control: it feels less aggressively hot than my old curling iron, though that doesn’t mean it can’t cause heat damage.

Is the Dyson Airwrap i.d. worth $600?
I’m genuinely conflicted. I use it regularly, and I enjoy the results when they turn out well. But if I’d borrowed one for a month first, I’m not convinced I’d have spent $600 on it. It’s a luxury convenience product, not an essential. Would I buy it again at full price? No. I’d wait for a big discount, or buy a good hair dryer and curling iron separately.
Dyson Airwrap i.d.: frequently asked questions

If you have plenty of disposable income and love trying new styles, you’ll probably enjoy the Dyson Airwrap i.d. But if you’re saving up for months expecting it to transform your hair routine, try one before you buy. Dyson’s demo stores are a good place to do that. My rating is 6/10: I like using it, but I wouldn’t pay full price for it again.
